Day 4 of my first dive trip to Brazil. I’d seen some huge Cuberas but didn’t have a shot and this was my second dive on a pinnacle that was only 30’ across at the top and 100’ deep. On the first dive in 50’ vis I missed the spot and a small whale scared the hell out of me swimming by at 80’. Next dive I see this guy hanging at 95’ in a school of bait and keep sinking thinking he would spook at any second. Ten feet away I send the shaft and he still hasn’t flinched! On impact he goes nuts and I clamp the reel on my 120 cm Riffe Euro to keep him from getting back to the rock and let out just enough line to get to the surface and really horse him up. It wasn’t until I took this photo that could see he was blind on his left eye because of a parasite straight through his eyeball. Unfortunate for him but huge win for me! 88 lbs on the certified scale and my biggest Cubera to date. #freediving #spearfishing #cuberasnapper #snapper #pargo
